April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to win her third gold medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. More than that though Ross hopes to win her first Olympic gold. As she is 39 she could have her final chance. However, she is convinced of winning top awards. Ross through NBC Boston, said that if the team plays consistently or well they could win a gold. Also, I am going to rely on a bit of luck. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she resided with her parents and her sister. She was able to participate in many sports in Newport Harbor High School. Along with playing indoor volleyball, she also was a basketball player and also ran track as a pre-collegiate athlete. She was clearly the best player in indoor volleyball. During her high school career she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter on the volleyball court as per her bio at the college. The results of her efforts were acknowledged when she was named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National players of the year. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross and Klineman may have begun working together in the year 2017, however Ross was an experienced athlete at the beach prior to when they teamed up. Actually Ross has been a winner of several significant tournaments during her time together with two other partners. One of them is a legend. The pair teamed together with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and she also served as Klineman's coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the international arena, taking home a 2009 world title as a team. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded a gold medal. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. The pair were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a player for the Trojans of USC in her college years after she graduated in high school. Ross's time in the Trojans was remarkable. As a freshmen in 2000, her play earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA the Freshman of the Year award. Also, she was an integral player in helping the Trojans make it to the Final Four. The second season of her career, she experienced a terrible personal loss, yet was able to be named an All-American. The last two years with the Trojans in the program they won success by winning two consecutive national championships. In 2003-2004, she was named the best collegiate female volleyball player in the United States according to The Honda Sports Award. Ross had been an international studies student at USC. Margie Ross never saw her daughter achieve the heights in beach volleyball. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001. Ross was still an USC sophomore. The cancer was diagnosed as breast. As a result, Ross remains near to her mother who passed away. Margie, on the beach as well as in everyday life, inspires her.
